Ask Allah for Both…

“But among them is he who says, “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account. “

Surah Al Baqarah, 2:201-202

Allah is Sufficient for Those Who Believe

Allah says in The Qur’an;

“And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, “Indeed, Allah will be testing you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand.” But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them. Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, “There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers.” But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, “How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient.”

Surah Al Baqarah, 2:249

And;

“And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, “Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”

Surah Al Baqarah, 2:250

The Benefits of Reciting The Qur’an

Narrated Aisha

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Such a person as recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward. “

Sahih al-Bukhari 4937

A Time So Near

Allah عزوجل says in The Qur’an:

“Hearts that day will tremble”

Surah An-Naziat, 79:8

Excerpt from Tafsir Ibn Kathir about this Ayah;

Then Allah says,

(On the Day the Rajifah shakes, followed by the Radifah.) Ibn `Abbas said, “These are the two blasts (of the Trumpet) — the first and the second.” Mujahid, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, Ad-Dahhak and others have made similar statements. It has been reported from Mujahid that he said, “In reference to the first, it is the statement of Allah,

(On the Day the Rajifah shakes,) This is similar to Allah’s statement,

(On the Day the earth and the mountains shake.) (73:14) The second is Ar-Radifah, and it is like the Allah’s statement,

(And the earth and mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing.) (69:14)” Concerning Allah’s statement,

(Hearts that Day will tremble.) Ibn `Abbas said, “This means afraid.” Mujahid and Qatadah also said this.

(Their vision humiliated.) meaning, the eyes of the people. It means that the eyes will be lowly and disgraced from what they will witness of terrors. Allah then says,

(They say: “Shall we indeed be brought back from Al-Hafirah”) meaning, the idolators of the Quraysh and whoever rejects the Hereafter as they did. They consider the occurrence of the resurrection after being placed in Al-Hafirah — which are the graves — as something farfetched. This has been said by Mujahid. They feel that this is something impossible after the destruction of their physical bodies and the disintegration of their bones and their decaying. Thus, Allah says,

(Even after we are bones Nakhirah) It has also been recited: (نَاخِرَةً) (Nakhirah) Ibn Abbas, Mujahid and Qatadah, all said, "This means decayed.'' IbnAbbas said, “It is the bone when it has decayed and air enters into it.” Concerning their saying,

(It would in that case be a return with loss.) (79:12) Muhammad bin Ka`b said that the Quraysh said, “If Allah brings us back to life after we die, then surely we will be losers.” Allah then says,

(But it will be only a single Zajrah. When behold, they are at As-Sahirah.) meaning, this is a matter that is from Allah that will not occur twice, nor will there be any opportunity to affirm it or verify it. The people will be standing and looking. This will be when Allah commands the angel Israfil to blow into the Sur, which will be the blowing of the resurrection. At that time the first people and the last people will all be standing before their Lord looking. This is as Allah says,

(On the Day when He will call you, and you will answer with His praise and obedience, and you will think that you have stayed but a little while!) (17:52) Allah has also said,

(And our commandment is but one as the twinkling of an eye.) (54:50) Allah also says,

(And the matter of the Hour is not but as a twinkling of the eye, or even nearer.) (16:77) Allah then says,

(When behold, they are at As-Sahirah.) Ibn Abbas said, "As-Sahirah means the entire earth.'' Said bin Jubayr, Qatadah and Abu Salih have all said this as well. Ikrimah, Al-Hasan, Ad-Dahhak, and Ibn Zayd have all said, "As-Sahirah means the face of the earth.'' Mujahid said, "They will be at its (the earth's) lowest part, and they will be brought out to highest part.'' Then he said, "As-Sahirah is a level place.'' Ar-Rabi bin Anas said,

(When behold, they are at As-Sahirah.) “Allah says,

(On the Day when the earth will be changed to another earth and so will be the heavens, and they will appear before Allah, the One, the Irresistible.) (14:48) and He says,

(And they ask you concerning the mountains: say, “My Lord will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust. Then He shall leave them as a level smooth plain.You will see therein nothing crooked or curved.) (20:105-107) and Allah says,

(And the Day We shall cause the mountains to pass away, and you will see the earth as a leveled plain.) (18:47) and the earth will be brought forth which will have mountains upon it, and it will not be considered from this earth (of this life). It will be an earth that no sin will be performed on it, nor will any blood be shed upon it.”

Tafsir Ibn Kathir

It is incumbent upon us to remember The Day of Judgement often, and to hold a fear of it in our hearts. That Day will be a day when the truthful and repentant will profit from their truth, whilst the liar and deniers will suffer

for their deciet.

May You Be Honeyed

It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise – they are the foundation of the Book – and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah . But those firm in knowledge say, “We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord.” And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.

[Who say], “Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

Surah Ali ‘Imran, 3:8

May you all be Honeyed by Allah

The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, said:

“If Allah loves a person, he is honeyed by Him,”

They asked: ‘what does honeying mean?’

He said, “Allah opens for him the door of a righteous deed before his death, and keeps him (firm) on it until his death”

[Narrated by Ahmad 17819]

Imam Albanee rahimahullah said:

and the sign of this honeying is that everyone becomes pleased with that person as this has been proven in a ‘Marfoo addition to this hadith (..until everyone becomes pleased with him)

[Silsilah as-Sahihah 1114]

It’s said, that Shaykh al-Albani used to supplicate for the one who did a favor by saying: “may you be honeyed by Allah”.

[Musnad al-Imaam Ahmad, #17438. Authenticated by al-Albanee in Sahih al- Jaami’]

Find Your Cave

“(Remember) when the young men fled for refuge to the Cave. They said: “Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Yourself, and facilitate for us our affair in the right way!”

Surah Al-Kafh, 18:10

Cave (noun)

Definition;

a place providing privacy or seclusion from others.

Merriam Webster Dictionary

Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ tells us of the youth who took to the cave;

“We narrate to you (O Muhammad ﷺ) their story with truth: Truly, they were young men who believed in their Lord (Allah), and We increased them in guidance. And We made their hearts firm (with the Light of Faith in Allah and bestowed upon them patience to ear the separation of their kith and kin and dwellings) when they stood up and said; “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, never shall we call upon any ilah (god) other than Him; if we did, we should indeed have uttered an enormity in disbelief.

These our people have taken for worship alihah (gods) other than Him (Allah). Why do they not bring for them a clear authority? And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah.

(The young men said to one another): “And when you withdraw from them, and that which they worship, except Allah, then seek refuge in the Cave; your Lord will open a way for you from His Mercy and will make easy for you your affair (i.e. will give you what you need of provision and dwelling).”

Surah Al-Kahf, 18:13-16

Truly, Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ is sufficient for those who believe. In various moments in our lives we have opportunities to retreat to our cave. A place where we abandon the world and its evils in order to fear Allah. Sometimes this retreat must be physical (i.e. hijra for Allah’s sake) and sometimes, this retreat must be spiritual like in the story of Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام. Heعَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَام was commanded to go among the oppressors yet find spiritual repose in Allah alone. Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ said to Musa;

“And I have chosen you, for Myself.”

“Go you and your brother with My Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.), and do not, you both, slacken and become weak in My Remembrance.

Surah Ta-Ha, 20:41-42

There are days when those closest to the believer acts as treacherous enemy. One must retreat to a place of obedience and worship to Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ and Allah alone. Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ says in The Qur’an;

“And We have made some of you as a trial for others: will you have patience? And your Lord is Ever All-Seer (of everything).

Surah Al-Furqan, 25:20

Everything For The Believer Is On The Path of Allah

The believer should not look to order their own affairs. They should be diligent upon fulfilling the rights of their Lord through all that He has commanded (i.e., actualizing Tawheed, prayers, fasting, zakat, hajj, seeking knowledge and the like). The believer must know that the good in everything that he or she seeks will be on The Path of Allah.

Tirmidhi #76 records on the authority of Nawwas ibn Sam’an that the messenger of Allah (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) said:

“Allah has set forth the following as a parable:

There is a road that leads straight to the destination. On either side of the road there is a wall in which there are open doors with curtains hanging on them. From the remote end of the road, a voice calls, ‘proceed straight and do not turn aside’. Whenever someone intends to lift a curtain from the door another voice calls from above. ‘Beware! Do not lift the curtain; otherwise you will be lured inside’.

The prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallaam) explained the parable by saying that the straight path is Islam. the walls are the limits imposed by Allah, the open doors are the things that He has prohibited, the voice which calls from the end of the road is the Quran and the voice which calls from above is Allah’s monitor in the heart of every believer”.

It was declared Hasan Gharib by Tirmidhee and sahih by Hakim #245 with Dhahabi agreeing and Al-Albani , Sahih al-Jami’ #3887

Ibn Rajab said:

“The one who fears Allah is not the one who simply cries and his eyes overflow with tears; rather, the one who really fears Allah is he who leaves that which Allah has prohibited even though his heart desires it and he has the ability to carry it out.

What Allah Examines…

This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه with some addition (and it is this): Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said; “Verily Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىdoes not look to your bodies nor to your appearances but He looks to your…”and he pointed towards the heart with his fingers.

Sahih Muslim 2564, Book 45, Hadith 41

Pour Upon Us Patience!

“And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! Pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims.”

Surah Al-A’raf 7:126

May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَ grant us a good end. Ameen.

An Excellent Example

“(They prayed): “Our Lord! In Thee do we trust, and to Thee do we turn in repentance: to Thee is (our) final Goal. Our Lord! Make us not a (test and) trial for the Unbelievers, but forgive us, our Lord! for thou art the Exalted in Might, the Wise. There was indeed in them an excellent example for you to follow,-for those whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day. But if any turn away, truly Allah is Free of all wants, Worthy of all Praise.”

(Surah Mumtahan’a, 60:4-6)
