The Hard Heart

(Praise is to Allah, we praise Him and we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds, Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray; and whomsoever is led astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah, alone with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His slave and His Messenger). ‘O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in the state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.’ And: ‘O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women, and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you.’ And: ‘O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins.’

(Sunan Ibn Majah, 1892)

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,

We thank Allah for guiding us to Islam and making us Muslims. In being grateful to Allah (S.W.T.) for His guidance, we must preserve the holy text, and we can only preserve the Holy text by understanding its meanings. After understanding its meanings we must act on its orders and refrain from its prohibitions. This is the way the Prophets (may Allah (S.W.T.) be pleased with them)and the righteous ones who came before us.

It is not for a Muslim to have an opinion about the matter- the matter of practicing his or her religion in the way legislated by Allah, after the truth has been made clear to them. This is indeed a going astray. You will see people, who when reminded about the fundamentals of Islam- praying their five daily prayers, refraining from watching and listening to the haram like music and television and the like, arguing in great fury when reminded.

These are the people who have been given guidance but refuse to accept due to rebellion and disbelief. Their hearts have turned away from Allah so He has hardened their hearts. The light of faith cannot enter a heart in this condition unless Allah (S.W.T.) turns to them in Mercy.

This is the condition of the peoples who have come before us–those who call themselves Christians. They have a book from Allah giving light yet they are heedless to its commands and they have changed much of it to suit their desires. By the Mercy of Allah (S.W.T.) we are reminded of them and their crooked ways when we recite Surah Al-Fatiha. In it, we ask Allah (S.W.T.) to guide us to a straight path, then in the last ayah we ask;

صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

“The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (i.e. those whose intentions are perverted: they know the Truth, yet do not follow it–((the Jews)), nor of those who went astray (i.e. those who have lost the (true) knowledge, so they wander in error, and are not guided to the Truth ((the Christians)).”

(The Noble Qur’an, 1:7)

The hypocrisy of the Christians is evident in their speech and actions. We have just witnessed them celebrating the Birth of Prophet Isa (A.S.) whom they take as a God (AgstagfirAllah). No permission have they in their book for such a matter. Their are many instances in the Bible where Prophet Isa (A.S.) acknowledges Allah (S.W.T.) as His Lord but this important fact, the Christians deny. (Matthew 5:48, Matthew 6:1, Matthew 7:21, Matthew 11:25, Matthew 14:23). Their chosen mode of worship of Prophet Isa (A.S.) is through a birthday celebration, is a practice deeply rooted in paganism yet they delight in their fallacy!

We have witnessed their putting up Christmas trees, another paganistic act, which is forbidden for them in the Bible (Jeremiah 10-15).

It is well known that during this celebrations many of them roast a pig and eat from it–something else they are forbidden to do in their Book, yet some of the learned ones argue viciously with false arguments to cover their misdeeds while the majority (the ignorant) see, yet pay no heed. (Leviticus 11:7).

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, the people who came before us have rejected a great part of the message. It did not suit their taste for corruption, forbidden things, and the pleasures of the worldly life–so they, in their boldness changed the words of Allah and fell into disbelief. They were foretold about the coming of our beloved Nabi, Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and they rejected it. (John 16:5-8, John 14:15-16, John 15:26-27, John 16:12-14) However, we, the Muslims, have accepted the truth (The Gospel-as much as we can confirm of its original form, and the Prophethood of the “Comforter”, Prophet Muhammad, (S.A.W.).

If we want success O Muslims, we must take a lesson from those who have went astray. So as to not throw our books behind us, as they have. So that our speech and deeds will be in accordance with the Light of the Qur’an and so that we may not become people who say things that they do not do. May Allah pardon us a protect us from this great evil. Ameen.

The Christians have a book, they preach from it, yet many of them don’t take time to ponder its meanings. For if they did, they would not be upon what they are upon. They are lost, a blind people, deceived by the life of this world. Enjoying its pleasures, doing grievous forbidden things.

Allah, The Exalted says in the Qur’an:

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّورَ خُذُوا مَا آتَيْنَاكُم بِقُوَّةٍ وَاذْكُرُوا مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

“And (O Children of Israel, remember when we took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying): “Hold fast to that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein so that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).”

(2:63)

We as Muslims must take account of our actions today so as not to be like them. We must take an inventory of our acts of ibadah–is there any Khu’shoo in our recitation and prayers or are we merely uttering words, remembering Allah a little and remembering our desires much? How are our homes? Are they filled with things and actions that please Allah such as Islamic books, studying, reciting Qur’an, listening to lectures? Or is the T.V. blasting showing images of people doing and saying inappropriate things?

What is our state O Muslims? Have we gone astray like the Christians?

There are some from among us who have even made it permissible to celebrate with the Christians in this evil affair! AgstagfirAllah.

Beware of the hard heart, beware of the hard heart!

When the heart becomes hard, one will find themselves changing Allah’s words from their right places. They will be given to their own “interpretation” of the ayat and forgo what the Prophet (S.A.W), the righteous companions, and the scholars say about them. They will be given to what they “think” what they “feel” and thus become the people of desires.

O Muslims I warn you of a Day that no one can put back. A Day when no soul can avail another. A Day when our individual books will be laid bare and nothing will be hidden.

Abandon the desire for this Dunya and its pleasures. This is not our true home. The home for the true believers in Islam, those who when they are reminded about the ayat of Allah say; “we here and we obey”, those who seek a path with Allah (S.W.T.) and His Messenger (S.A.W.), those who repent when they have wronged and struggle for the path again, it is those who can hope for a great reward.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, I encourage you to clean your heart, minds, and homes from any traces of this Dunya. Purify yourself by stricktly adhering to the Qur’an and Sunnah as much as you are able. Commit yourself to reading and contemplating meanings of the beautiful Words of Allah (S.W.T.), study the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), learn about the righteous Companions (A.S.), get acquainted with the scholars of Ahul Sunnah wa Jamaah.

Purify yourselves then warn your families lest you fall into the way of those who came before us–The Christians. Those who have a book from Allah giving light but they abused it (changed it) and fail to implement (practice it.)

May Allah forgive us our misdeeds and guide us always. Allahummah Ameen.
