Those Headed for Destruction, The Sacredness of Islam and the Muslims, Ways of the Innovators, Holding Grudges
O you who believe! Have Tawqah of Allah in your dealings with His believing slaves. For Allah (S.W.T.) is ever mindful of what you do!
Allah (S.W.T.) in His infinite knowledge knows what we reveal and what we conceal. He is all knowing of the truth behind the truth and nothing is hidden from him. He flings down the truth upon falsehood and obliterates it, and that is most easy for our Lord. He has sent the Qur’an as a book giving light, and our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), inviting mankind to all that is good.
Those who are destined for a bad end have many evil marks. One of which is the attempt at changing the Words of Allah from their right places. Bi’dah and innovations are trademarks of those who are rebellious and disobedient to Allah. They are those who seek to make excuses for their disbelief so as to hide their great evil from men. The do nothing but lie to themselves in order to delight in their created realities. They are show-off truly, and their minds have not risen to grasp the jurisdiction of their Lord over all that they seek to gain (honor, fame, power, etc.).
The one who has established a relationship with their Lord and allowed themselves to be guided by Him, the one who delights in the miracles of the Qur’an and Sunnah may enviably feel grieved when observing the words and actions of those who claim to have knowledge of The Deen of Al-Islam. It is most unfortunate that the innovators are often in the forefront propagating their own versions of what they claim to be Islam by which they lead many astray.
How is one who claims to be Muslim able to commit such a grave offence when they are clearly learned in Islam ( as they often quote Qur’an, Hadith, Tafsir, and the like?) How are they deluded away from the truth?
Allah, by His abounding Mercy, has allowed us a glimpse into this deadly dis-ease so that we might prevent (or intervene in) our own hearts from falling into this level of dis-belief and hypocrisy. So that we may save ourselves from being destroyed utterly by the evil root of this condition.
Changing words from their right places, mis-quoting the stories of the Qur’an, innovating matters in the Deen are grave outward manifestations of hypocrisy. The true issue lies in our hearts in how we perceive the sacredness of our religion and those members who have been called to it.
Allah, The Exalted says in the Qur’an:
يَوْمَ تَرَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَسْعَىٰ نُورُهُم بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَبِأَيْمَانِهِم بُشْرَاكُمُ الْيَوْمَ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
يَوْمَ يَقُولُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا انظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ قِيلَ ارْجِعُوا وَرَاءَكُمْ فَالْتَمِسُوا نُورًا فَضُرِبَ بَيْنَهُم بِسُورٍ لَّهُ بَابٌ بَاطِنُهُ فِيهِ الرَّحْمَةُ وَظَاهِرُهُ مِن قِبَلِهِ الْعَذَابُ
يُنَادُونَهُمْ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنَّكُمْ فَتَنتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ وَارْتَبْتُمْ وَغَرَّتْكُمُ الْأَمَانِيُّ حَتَّىٰ جَاءَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ وَغَرَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُورُ
فَالْيَوْمَ لَا يُؤْخَذُ مِنكُمْ فِدْيَةٌ وَلَا مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ مَأْوَاكُمُ النَّارُ ۖ هِيَ مَوْلَاكُمْ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ
أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ وَلَا يَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْأَمَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ
“On the Day you shall see the believing men and the believing women: their light running forward before them and (with their Records- Books of deeds) in their right hands. Glad tidings for you this Day! Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever! Truly, this is the great success! On the Day when the hypocrites-men and women-will say to the believers: “Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!” It will be said: “Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!” So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment. (The hypocrites) will call the believers: “Were we not with you?” The believers will reply: “Yes! But you led yourselves into temptations, you looked forward for our destruction; you doubted (in Faith) and you were deceived by false desires, till the Command of Allah came to pass. And the chief deceiver (Satan) deceived you in respect of Allah. So this Day no ransom shall be taken from you (hypocrites), nor of those who disbelieved (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism). Your abode is the Fire. That is your maula (friend – proper place) and worst indeed is that destination. Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allah’s Reminder (this Qur’an), and that which has been revealed of the truth, lest they become as those who received the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before (i.e. Jews and Christians), and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? Any many of them were Fasiqun (the rebellious, the disobedient to Allah).”
Excerpts from Tafsir Ibn Kathir (rahimullah):
The Condition of the Hypocrites on the Day of Resurrection
Allah said, (On the Day when the hypocrites men and women will say to the believers: “Wait for us! Let us get something from your light ! ”) Allah informs us in this Ayah of the terrible horrors, horrendous incidents and tremendous events that will take place on the Day of Resurrect ion in the Gathering Area. No one will be saved on that Day, except those who believed in Allah and His Messenger, obeyed Allah’s commands and avoided His prohibit ions.
Al-Awf i, Ad-Dahhak, and others reported from Ibn Abbas:”When the people are gathering in darkness, Allah will send light , and when the believers see the light they will march towards it . This light will be their guide from Allah to Paradise. When the hypocrites see the believers following the light , they will follow them. However, Allah will extinguish the light for the hypocrites and they will say(to the believers),
(Wait for us! Let us get something from your light . ) The believers will reply by saying,
(Go back to your rear! ) to the dark area you were in, and look for a light there! ”’ Allah said,
(So, a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and
outside it will be torment .) Al-Hasan and Qatadah said that the wall mentioned here is located between Paradise and Hellfire. ` Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said that the wall mentioned in this Ayah is the wall that Allah described in His statement,
(And between them will be a (barrier) screen. )(7:46) Similar was reported from Mujahid and others, and it is correct . Allah said, (Inside it will be mercy, ) meaning, Paradise and all that is in it, (and outside it will be torment . ) meaning, the Hellfire, according to Qatadah, Ibn Zayd and others. Allah said,
((The hypocrites) will call the believers: “Were we not with you”) meaning, the hypocrites will call out to the believers saying, “Were we not with you in the life of the world, at tending Friday prayers and congregational prayers, Did we not stand with you on Mount ` Arafah (during Haj j ), participate in battle by your side and perform all types of acts of worship with you?”
(The believers will reply: “Yes! . . . ”) The believers will answer the hypocrites by saying, “Yes, you were with us, (But you led yourselves into temptations, you looked forward to our destruction; and you doubted (in faith) and you were deceived by false hopes, ) ” Qatadah said, (you looked forward to destruction), “Of the truth and its people. ”
(and you doubted, ) that Resurrect ion occurs after death,
(and you were deceived by false hopes,) meaning: you said that you will be forgiven your sins; or, they say it means: this life deceived you; (till the command of Allah came to pass.) Meaning: you remained on this path until death came to you,
(And the deceiver deceived you in regard to Allah. ) ` the deceiver’ being Shaytan. Qatadah said, “They were deceived by Ash-Shaytan. By Allah! They remained deceived until Allah cast them into Hellf ire.” The meaning here is that the believers will answer the hypocrites by saying, “You were with us in bodies which were heart less and devoid of intentions. You were cast in doubt and suspicion. You were showing of f for people and remembered Allah, little.”
Muj ahid commented, “The hypocrites were with the believers in this life, marrying f rom among each other, yet betraying them even when they were associating with them. They were dead. They will both be given a light on the Day of Resurrect ion, but the light of the hypocrites will be extinguished when they reach the wall; this is when the two camps separate and part! ” Allah’s statement ,
(Your abode is the Fire. ) means, the Fire is your final destination and to it will be your return for residence, (That is your protector, ) meaning, it is the worthy shelter for you rather than any other residence, because of your disbelief and doubt , and how evil is the Fire for Final Destination.
Encouraging Khushu` and the Prohibition of imitating the People of
Allah asks, Has not the time come for the believers to feel humility in their hearts by the remembrance of Allah and hearing subtle advice and the recitation of the Qur’an, so that they may comprehend the Qur’an, abide by it, and hear and obey? Muslim recorded that Abdullah bin Mas’ud said, “Only four years separated our acceptance of Islam and the revelation of this Ayah, in which Allah subtly admonished us,
(Has not the time yet come for the believers that their hearts should be humble for the
remembrance of Allah)” This is the narration Muslim collected, just before the end of his book. An-Nasa’i also collected this Hadith in the Tafsir of this Ayah.
Allah’s statement, (Lest they become as those who received the Scripture before, and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened).
Allah is prohibiting the believers from imitating those who were given the Scriptures before them, the Jews and Christians. As time passed, they changed the Book of Allah that they had, and sold it for a small, miserable price. They also abandoned Allah’s Book behind their back and were impressed and consumed by various opinions and false creeds. They imitated the way others behaved with the religion of Allah, making their rabbis and priests into gods beside Allah. Consequently, their hearts became hard and they would not accept advice; their hearts did not feel humbled by Allah’s promises or threats.
(And many of them were rebellious. ) meaning, in action; therefore, their hearts are corrupt and their actions are invalid, just as Allah the Exalted said,
(So, because of their breach of their covenant , We cursed them and made their hearts grow hard. They changed the words from their (right ) places and have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them.) (5:13) meaning, their hearts became corrupt and they hardened, and they acquired the behavior of changing Allah’s Speech from their appropriate places and meanings. They abandoned acts of worship that they were commanded to perform and committed what they were prohibited to do. This is why Allah forbade the believers from imitating them in any way, be it basic or detailed matters.

A Sacred Bond
The believers are united by our acknowledgement and submission to Tawheed (The Oneness of Allah). Allah (S.W.T.) guides only those whom He chooses to His way. When one enters the fold of Islam, they enter into a brotherhood. The believers will only be successful when we are friends and helpers to one another. When we act hostile, abuse, neglect, and forsake one another we become helpers of the Shaytan and his friends among the jinn and men.
Having one foot with the believers and one foot with the Shaytan, a believer becomes a hypocrite–a hostile enemy to Islam, the Muslims, a wretched betrayer. It is unfortunate and all too common to see these events happening in the broader Ummah (Muslim countries waging wars and killing other Muslim nations) and more intimately, in our homes (Husbands and Wives / Siblings causing fitna for one another).
For those who are striving to have Tawqa of Allah, that is, full awareness and fear of their Lord, we must remember that Allah takes a close account of all that we do, all that we say, even what is in the heart.
These abhorrent acts (killing and betraying the Muslims) become easy for the one who does not contemplate the Qur’an and it’s meanings with the guidance of the Sunnah of our Nabi, Prophet Muhammad, (S.A.W), the rightly guided Companions (R.A.), and the knowledgeable scholars of Ahul Sunnah wa Jamah. Leaving off this guidance by not truly desiring it, leaves one at the Mercy of his or her own whims and desires. What a woeful place to be with a devastating end.
We seek Allah’s Protection and Mercy from Him misguiding us after He has guided, and our misguiding ourselves and others. Allahumma Ameen.
Beneficial Hadith on the Establishment of Brotherhood / Sisterhood:
It was narrated that ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir (R.A.): “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to sell his brother goods in which there is a defect, without pointing that out to him.”‘
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 2246)
‘Uqba b. ‘Amir (R.A.) said on the pulpit that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: A believer is the brother of a believer, so it is not lawful for a believer to outbid his brother, and he should not propose an engagement when his brother has thus proposed until he gives it up.
(Sahih Muslim, 1414)
Narrated Abu Hurayrah (R.A.): The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The believer is the believer’s mirror, and the believer is the believer’s brother who guards him against loss and protects him when he is absent.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, 4918)
Narrated Ibn Mas’ud (R.A.): that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “A Muslim’s fighting his brother is disbelief, and verbally abusing him is disobedience.”
(Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 2634)
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (R.A.) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“It is sufficient evil for a man to look down on his Muslim brother.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 4213)
Abu Hurayra (R.A.) said, “A believer is the mirror of his brother. When he sees a fault in it, he should correct it.”
(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 238)
A Note on Holding Grudges:
The striving Muslim can recognize Allah’s signs within him or herself. By Allah’s grace and Mercy they were guided to Islam and brought out from darkness into the light. In building a relationship with Allah (S.W.T.) one is sure to realize Allah is Al-Nur, light upon light, and so, as He guides His servants to more awareness of Himself, they are bound to grow if they are truly striving to be upon righteousness.
For those who have experienced this guidance of Allah, (S.W.T.) we have learned to ask Allah to forgive us and have undertaken the hardest task of forgiving ourselves. This is the Mercy of Allah, this is Allah (S.W.T.) being good to His slaves-as He is At-Tawwaab (The One who guides His servants to repent and accepts their repentance).
How can we, after Allah has been good to us, refuse to be good and Merciful to others? In particular to the believers. We must understand that our Muslim Brothers and Sisters, have acknowledged Allah (S.W.T.) as their Lord. He guides them, as guides you. All of us together, by Allah’s Grace and Mercy, acknowledged His signs of Tawheed.
So if your Muslim Brother or Sister wrongs you-ask Allah for His forgiveness for them. Don’t you wish that Allah (S.W.T.) should forgive you? Put up with their harms for the sake of Allah, perhaps you are trial for them and He will guide them to a better way through you. These conditions are not contingent upon the other person acknowledging their faults to you and asking for your forgiveness. They may have done so in private and in any case, their affair is with their Lord. We must all fear a day when no soul will be able to help another.
Holding onto grudges creates a hostile environment in our hearts and minds for fellow believers which can then turn into hostile words and actions. It is enough evil to look down on your Muslim brother or Sister, how much more to take actions against them?
Allah, The Exalted says in the Qur’an:
اعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُحْيِي الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ۚ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
“Know that Allah gives life to the earth after its death! Indeed We have made clear the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to you, if you but understand.”
Excerpts from Tafsir Ibn Kathir about this ayah:
Allah says; (Know that Allah gives life to the earth after its death! Indeed We have made clear the Ayat to you, if you but understand. ) This Ayah indicates that He brings subtleness to hearts after they have become hard, guides the confused after they were led astray, and relieves hardships after they have intensified. And just as Allah brings life back to the dead and dry earth by sending the needed abundant rain, He also guides the hardened hearts with the proofs and evidences of the Qur’an. The light (of faith) would have access to the hearts once again, after they were closed and, as a consequence, no guidance was able to reach them. All praise is due to Him Who guides whomever He wills after they were misguided, Who misguides those who were led aright before. Surely, it is He Who does what He wills and He is the All-Wise, the Most Just in
all that He does, the Most Subtle, the Most Aware, the Most High, the Proud.

We seek Allah’s, The Most High, to pour upon us patience to bear whatever may befall us, to not see the trials of mankind as His punishment, to guide us always and to forgive us when we forget or fall into error, to increase us in knowledge and true adherence to His religion, to be brothers and sisters of one another in order for our religion to reign supreme. Allahummah Ameen.
